Posted July 21, 2019 by Kaity in Bookish Memes, Wrap Up / 6 Comments

Welcome to my Weekly Wrap Up post! I link these posts up with The Sunday Post, hosted by Kimberly over at Caffeinated Reviewer, and Stacking the Shelves, hosted by Tynga at Tynga’s Reviews and Marlene at Reading Reality.  For my Weekly Wrap Ups, I’ll recap what I posted, read, and watched this week, plus I’ll let you know about any current giveaways I have up. I’ll also tell you about recent updates on my TBR and new books I received and/or bought. Okay, time to see what happened this week!

On the Blog

I didn’t post last week’s wrap up (thanks endo), or really any other posts that weren’t already scheduled. But this week I will do better! So this week is a recap of the last two weeks. Probably the most noticeable thing on the blog is that I changed parts of the design! (again!) The colors are more obvious in all of the posts (and they have gradients!!!), I changed my canva image (seriously, love canva), I made my own post divider!!!, and I added a second layer behind all the typography so it ~pops~ more! Let me know what you think of everything in the comments!

Off the Blog

  • IT’S SO HOT OUT I CAN’T REMEMBER WHAT IT WAS LIKE BEFORE THIS OMG.
  • I’ve been listening to a lot of StarKid, which is hard because it makes me think about a person who is no longer in my life, but I love the music and the people behind it so much I’ve been listening anyway?
  • That’s literally been my whole week. Like I’ve gone to work, read, and listened to Starkid.

Currently Reading/Listening To: No Place Like Here by Christina June. MY REVIEW IS GOING UP ON THURSDAY AND I STILL (as of late Saturday night) HAVEN’T FINISHED READING THIS BOOK. oops. The weirdest part is that I LOVE what I’ve read so far?? So I don’t know why I’m not just finishing this book. Ugh. Hopefully I’ll finish this weekend with the readathon.

Currently Listening To: Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard: The Ship of the Dead by Rick Riordan, read by Michael Crouch. I’ve been chronicling my feelings towards the narrators on goodreads, but basically this is the third book and he’s definitely my second favorite out of the three.

Just Finished Reading: There continues to be nothing to put here this week.

Just Finished Listening To: Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard: The Hammer of Thor by Rick Riordan, read by Kieran Culkin. This was definitely my favorite narration of all three books!

Books: Hello Girls by Brittany Cavallaro and Emily Henry is the next book on my list! Hopefully I’ll finish No Place Like Here this weekend and then I can read this before August and N.E.W.T.s time!

Audiobooks: I’m already on the third Magnus Chase book, so I figure I’ll be all done with these in a week or two. I have no idea what I’ll listen to next!

Welcome to Diamond City, where secret magic could save your life or get you killed.

Meet Aina Solís, whose wit is as sharp as her blade.

At twelve years old, Aina Solís was pulled off of the streets she slept on and trained to be one of the most feared assassins in Sumerand, a kingdom founded by immigrants and built by magic―and in recent years transformed by an industrial revolution. When Aina is given the most lucrative and dangerous job of her career―killing a wealthy industrialist named Kouta―she knows it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to leave her impoverished roots in her past once-and-for-all: the payout is enough to free her from under her boss Kohl’s thumb. But when the job goes wrong and Kouta escapes, she is left without a penny to her name and in the crosshairs of Kohl, who is eager to show the world what happens to those that fail him.

With Kohl on her heels, Aina is running out of time to find Kouta and finish what she started. But the closer she gets to killing him, the more she begins to ask the questions assassins are never meant to ask: who wants Kouta dead? And why? In a city full of half-constructed subway tunnels, hidden magical dens, secret weapons markets, and wolf-sized spiders, Aina discovers a conspiracy that could rewrite her city’s history and―if it isn’t stopped―sink her country into a catastrophic war.

Balancing epic and intensely personal stakes, bestselling author Adam Silvera’s Infinity Son is a gritty, fast-paced adventure about two brothers caught up in a magical war generations in the making.

Growing up in New York, brothers Emil and Brighton always idolized the Spell Walkers—a vigilante group sworn to rid the world of specters. While the Spell Walkers and other celestials are born with powers, specters take them, violently stealing the essence of endangered magical creatures.

Brighton wishes he had a power so he could join the fray. Emil just wants the fighting to stop. The cycle of violence has taken a toll, making it harder for anyone with a power to live peacefully and openly. In this climate of fear, a gang of specters has been growing bolder by the day.

Then, in a brawl after a protest, Emil manifests a power of his own—one that puts him right at the heart of the conflict and sets him up to be the heroic Spell Walker Brighton always wanted to be.

Brotherhood, love, and loyalty will be put to the test, and no one will escape the fight unscathed.

Captain Eva Innocente and the crew of La Sirena Negra cruise the galaxy delivering small cargo for even smaller profits. When her sister Mari is kidnapped by The Fridge, a shadowy syndicate that holds people hostage in cryostasis, Eva must undergo a series of unpleasant, dangerous missions to pay the ransom.

But Eva may lose her mind before she can raise the money. The ship’s hold is full of psychic cats, an amorous fish-faced emperor wants her dead after she rejects his advances, and her sweet engineer is giving her a pesky case of feelings. The worse things get, the more she lies, raising suspicions and testing her loyalty to her found family.

To free her sister, Eva will risk everything: her crew, her ship, and the life she’s built on the ashes of her past misdeeds. But when the dominoes start to fall and she finds the real threat is greater than she imagined, she must decide whether to play it cool or burn it all down.

Shouldn't a girl get to star in her own love story?

Seventeen-year-old Megan Harper is about due for her next sweeping romance. It's inevitable—each of her relationships starts with the perfect guy and ends with him falling in love . . . with someone else. But instead of feeling sorry for herself, Megan focuses on pursuing her next fling, directing theater, and fulfilling her dream college's acting requirement in the smallest role possible.

So when she’s cast as Juliet (yes, that Juliet) in her high school’s production, it’s a complete nightmare. Megan’s not an actress, and she’s used to being upstaged—both in and out of the theater. In fact, with her mom off in Texas and her dad remarried and on to baby #2 with his new wife, Megan worries that, just like her exes, her family is moving on without her.

Then she meets Owen Okita, an aspiring playwright inspired by Rosaline from Shakespeare's R+J. A character who, like Megan, knows a thing or two about short-lived relationships. Megan agrees to help Owen with his play in exchange for help catching the eye of a sexy stagehand/potential new boyfriend. Yet Megan finds herself growing closer to Owen, and wonders if he could be the Romeo she never expected.

In their fresh and funny debut, Emily Wibberly and Austin Siegemund-Broka break down the high school drama to find there's always room for familial love, romantic love, and—most importantly—self-love.

High school senior Cameron Bright’s reputation can be summed up in one word: bitch. It’s no surprise she’s queen bee at her private L.A. high school—she’s beautiful, talented, and notorious for her cutting and brutal honesty. So when she puts her foot in her mouth in front of her crush, Andrew, she fears she may have lost him for good.

In an attempt to win him over, Cameron resolves to “tame” herself, much like Katherine in Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew. First, she’ll have to make amends with those she’s wronged, which leads her to Brendan, the guy she labelled with an unfortunate nickname back in the sixth grade. At first, Brendan isn’t all that receptive to Cameron’s ploy. But slowly, he warms up to her when they connect over the computer game he’s developing. Now if only Andrew would notice…

But the closer Cameron gets to Brendan, the more she sees he appreciates her personality—honesty and all—and wonders if she’s compromising who she is for the guy she doesn’t even want.

Prepare to learn everything we still don't know about our strange, mostly mysterious universe.

PHD Comics creator Jorge Cham and particle physicist Daniel Whiteson have teamed up to spelunk through the enormous gaps in our cosmological knowledge, armed with their popular infographics, cartoons, and unusually entertaining and lucid explanations of science.

In We Have No Idea, they explore the biggest unknowns in the universe, why these things are still mysteries, and what a lot of smart people are doing to figure out the answers (or at least ask the right questions). While they're at it, they helpfully demystify many complicated things we do know about, from quarks and neutrinos to gravitational waves and exploding black holes. With equal doses of humor and delight, they invite us to see the universe as a vast expanse of mostly uncharted territory that's still ours to explore. This entertaining illustrated science primer is the perfect book for anyone who's curious about all the big questions physicists are still trying to answer.

I haven’t heard of We Have No Idea before this post and I just read a preview on Amazon. This book is now on my wish list–this will be fun to read. I hope you have a great week!

  2. Lovely wrap up! Ah, I’m so happy you loved Far From Home! I watched it twice already, and have still not gotten over that ending! CURSE MARVEL FOR GIVING ME THESE FEELINGS! (You are more than welcome to scream your feels at me haha!) I haven’t started on the Magnus Chase books, but I might have to soon! How are you liking the audiobook version of the current book you’re on? I haven’t read either book by Emily Wibberley and Austin Siegemund-Broka, but I finally bought If I’m Being Honest, so I’m hoping to start on it very soon!

    Happy reading, love! <3
