On the Blog

Here are the links for everything that was published this week on Kait Plus Books:

Off the Blog

  • This was a fun week!
  • My grandparents are visiting from Florida, and it was nice to see them.
  • I went out to eat for the first time since covid and… yeah, I don’t like eating in restaurants.
  • I’m in the middle of my five day weekend/mini-vacation, and I’ve spent like 80% of it asleep (literally, I slept until 4:30 on Friday and could have gone back to bed almost immediately)
  • I read, I sleep, I work, I eat, once every few weeks I go to the movies. This is my life. I’m good with that.

So technically there was no new bookmail this week, but I did find a package I ordered forever ago and apparently lost before I opened it! And even though I just did a New to the Queue post, I added a few more books to my tbr! Here’s what I’m looking forward to reading (someday)

A secret beats inside Anna Thatcher's chest: an illegal clockwork heart. Anna works cog by cog -- donning the moniker Technician -- to supply black market medical technology to the sick and injured, against the Commissioner's tyrannical laws.
Nathaniel Fremont, the Commissioner's son, has never had to fear the law. Determined to earn his father's respect, Nathaniel sets out to capture the Technician. But the more he learns about the outlaw, the more he questions whether his father's elusive affection is worth chasing at all.
Their game of cat and mouse takes an abrupt turn when Eliza, a skilled assassin and spy, arrives. Her mission is to learn the Commissioner's secrets at any cost -- even if it means betraying her own heart.
When these uneasy allies discover the most dangerous secret of all, they must work together despite their differences and put an end to a deadly epidemic -- before the Commissioner ends them first.

Enhanced Memory changed everything. By sharing someone else’s memory, you can experience anything and everything with no risk at all: learn any skill instantly, travel the world from home, and safeguard all your most treasured secrets forever. Nova’s parents invented this technology, and it’s slowly taking over their lives. That’s where Nova comes in. She can pick up the slack for them—and she doesn’t mind. She knows Enhanced Memory is a gift, and its value outweighs its costs.
But Kade says Nova doesn’t even know the costs. Kade runs a secret vlog cataloging real experiences, is always on the move, and he’s strangely afraid of Nova—even though she feels more comfortable with him than she ever has with anyone. Suddenly there are things Nova can’t stop noticing: the way her parents don’t meet her eyes anymore, the questions no one wants her to ask, and the relentless feeling like there’s something she’s forgotten.
But there’s danger around every corner, and her own home might be the most dangerous place of all.

School's out.
Forget studying, exams, and mapping out the future.
For the next seven days, the only homework is partying with friends, making new ones and living in the moment.
There are no parents or curfews - and no rules.
Zoe, Samira and Dahlia are strangers, but they have something in common: their plans for a dream holiday after their final year of school are flipped upside-down before they even arrive at the beach.
From hooking up and heartache, to growing apart, testing friendships and falling in love, anything can go down this week.

Weekly Wrap Up | July 4, 2021The Anthropocene Reviewed by John Green
Published on May 18, 2021 by Dutton
Genres: Adult, Non-Fiction
Pages: 293

A deeply moving and insightful collection of personal essays from #1 bestselling author John Green.
The Anthropocene is the current geologic age, in which humans have profoundly reshaped the planet and its biodiversity. In this remarkable symphony of essays adapted and expanded from his groundbreaking podcast, bestselling author John Green reviews different facets of the human-centered planet on a five-star scale—from the QWERTY keyboard and sunsets to Canada geese and Penguins of Madagascar.
Funny, complex, and rich with detail, the reviews chart the contradictions of contemporary humanity. As a species, we are both far too powerful and not nearly powerful enough, a paradox that came into sharp focus as we faced a global pandemic that both separated us and bound us together.
John Green’s gift for storytelling shines throughout this masterful collection. The Anthropocene Reviewed is a open-hearted exploration of the paths we forge and an unironic celebration of falling in love with the world.

  1. It’s been busy around here, too. I hoped to read a lot of great books for Paris in July, but I’ve only finished one so far. I know it will pick up later in the month.

I’m especially curious about the new John Green book of essays. I bet he has a lot to say that is worth reading.

  2. It sounds like you’ve been up to some fun things lately—getting to see your grandparents is nice, and so is sleeping in, of course! I love your description of your current routine—that does sound like a really nice way to live! And it sounds like you’ve been reading and buying some great books lately—I’m especially intrigued by Can’t Say It Went to Plan. Thanks so much for the awesome post!
