On the Blog

Here are the links for everything that was published this week on Kait Plus Books:

Off the Blog

  • Last week I had a stomach bug that completely knocked me out. Sunday-Thursday is kind of a blur of ginger ale and saltines and wishing I felt better. On the plus side, I read three books!
  • There really isn’t much else to say about this week. Next week will be better, I hope! 🙂

Currently Reading: After starting (and dropping) about six books, I’m finally reading Where the Drowned Girls Go by Seanan McGuire. It’s the newest book in the Wayward Children series and I’m excited to go back!

Currently Listening To: I just started The King of Infinite Space by Lyndsay Faye. I’ve seen some really good reviews for this one, so I’m excited!

Just Finished Reading: So last week I was really sick and while there were certainly lots of horrible things about that, I also read three books in the space of like, 4 days! So: I reread/listened to The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes, read The Hawthorne Legacy by Jennifer Lynn Barnes in ONE DAY because it was just THAT GOOD, then I read The Year I Stopped Trying by Katie Heaney and… it was kind of a let down? and ever since then I haven’t really been able to stick to anything.

Just Finished Listening to: I think the last audiobook I listened to was The Inheritance Games, and I finished that last weekend, so….

Books: I have no freaking clue! I was going to read Forward March by Skye Quinlan, but the NetGalley copy is all kinds of messed up and I can’t read it. So I guess if I get a readable copy I’ll read that?

Audiobooks: Again, not a clue! If you have any suggestions, let me know in the comments!

Two new books came in the mail for me this week! Plus I added a bunch to my #tbr (there will be a new New to the Queue post coming soon)! Here’s what I’m looking forward to reading (someday):

Music runs in Sofi’s blood.
Her father is a Musik, one of only five musicians in the country licensed to compose and perform original songs. In the kingdom of Aell, where winter is endless and magic is accessible to all, there are strict anti-magic laws ensuring music remains the last untouched art.
Sofi has spent her entire life training to inherit her father’s title. But on the day of the auditions, she is presented with unexpected competition in the form of Lara, a girl who has never before played the lute. Yet somehow, to Sofi’s horror, Lara puts on a performance that thoroughly enchants the judges.
Almost like magic.
The same day Lara wins the title of Musik, Sofi’s father dies, and a grieving Sofi sets out to prove Lara is using illegal magic in her performances. But the more time she spends with Lara, the more Sofi begins to doubt everything she knows about her family, her music, and the girl she thought was her enemy.
As Sofi works to reclaim her rightful place as a Musik, she is forced to face the dark secrets of her past and the magic she was trained to avoid—all while trying not to fall for the girl who stole her future.

hello yes I just started my free trial of Apple TV+ because Ted Lasso just looked so good, and having since binged the entire first season and getting caught up on season two… yeah, it was 1000% worth it. Ted Lasso is the best tv show I have ever seen, because it is just so pure. So happy. I just love it so much!

  1. I’m sorry to hear about your bout with the stomach bug. You are the third person who went round and round with it recently. The other two ended up in the hospital, though.

And I’m glad to see you were able to get a lot of reading in. A bit of good news among the bad.

You might be interested in applying for the Cybils. It’s that time of the year.

  2. Stomach bugs are the worst, I hope you’ve recovered fully! It really does completely take the wind out of you. I also really want to read the Wayward Children series so I’m glad to see you’re enjoying it! I just picked up ‘My Best Friend’s Exorcism’ on Audible since it’s included in my membership, maybe that would be a fun one to try out? I hope you have a lovely week 🙂

Sorry to hear that you were ill last week. Though extra reading time is a positive there. I’m eager to read The Hawthorne Legacy as soon as it is published. I’m currently listening to Nalini Singh’s Guild Hunter series since I have the most recent on my review stack. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  4. Wow! first time to your blog–I love how it looks! So sorry that you were down with a stomach bug. Those are the worst. Glad that you were able to get some reading done though. Thanks for sharing all the good books! have a great week and happy reading!

  5. I’m so sorry about your stomach bug—that’s awful! I’m glad you were able to get some reading in despite it. All of the books you mention sound great, especially Dangerous Play (which has a great cover too)! Also, later in the week, I plan to keep watching Ted Lasso—my family adored it, but I’ve only seen two episodes! The second one got me hooked, though. Thanks so much for the great post!
