The Inheritance Games ended with a bombshell, and now heiress Avery Grambs has to pick up the pieces and find the man who might hold the answers to all of her questions - including why Tobias Hawthorne left his entire fortune to Avery, a virtual stranger, rather than to his own daughters or grandsons.
Thanks to a DNA test, Avery knows that she's not a Hawthorne by blood, but clues pile up hinting at a deeper connection to the family than she had ever imagined. As the mystery grows and the plot thickens, Grayson and Jameson, the enigmatic and magnetic Hawthorne grandsons, continue to pull Avery in different directions. And there are threats lurking around every corner, as adversaries emerge who will stop at nothing to see Avery out of the picture - by any means necessary.
did i like it?
I love this book so much I read it in just one day! I don’t remember the last time I did that for a book that wasn’t a) a Readathon book or b) written in a different format (Several People Are Typing, Technically You Started It, etc.)! I really loved the writing style, and the mysteries were just so enticing I couldn’t stop reading. I absolutely LOVE this book!
Xander is still my favorite, but Max comes in at a close second! And Xander and Max together? AMAZING!!!
Why did i read it?
I fell in love with Jennifer Lynn Barnes’ writing when I read Little White Lies back in 2018, and I’ve been reading all of her books since!
will i re-read it?
three words to describe the book
puzzles, suspense, WHAT
I love the idea of the cover! All the hidden things (like the wedding ring!) and the ribbon and the tagline and the fonts are so cool! But I don’t love the blue cover. My edit where it’s a purple cover I like more than the blue, but even that isn’t my favorite.
- Knives Out
- Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson
- In Her Skin by Kim Savage
- We Were Liars by E. Lockhart
- The Game by Linsey Miller
- #think the house from “Knives Out” but taller and more chaotic
- #no ships because I multiship everything and couldn’t decide
- #a mystery wrapped in an enigma and dipped in snark
so I’m really glad that this book confirmed that View Spoiler » Toby is NOT Avery’s biological father. « Hide Spoiler I feel like that could have been dragged out as a plot point for book three, and I’m just really really glad that it didn’t.
I also thought that View Spoiler » Avery’s mom was going to turn out to be Kaylee, especially after what her dad said about her middle name. But then she was her sister « Hide Spoiler and that really threw me for a loop!
What do you think about The Hawthorne Legacy? Have you added it to your tbr yet? Let me know in the comments and have a splendiferous day!
Love your review & blog post. I was also on the tour for this one and found it so much fun to read! I totally agree Xander is the best character. His scenes are so so funny!
