What would you do if you spent the day with Aster and Clementine? Where would you go to eat, hang out, relax, etc.?

I would love to take them around NYC! It was such a shock to me coming from the middle of the country, and I imagine it would be for them too, coming from the Scab.  

If Aster and Clementine were to hang out with characters from other books, who would they be and why?

I mentioned this earlier, but I think they would love Maeve from Westworld — it’s not a book, but it pairs really well with this series. 

If you could meet any fictional character, who would it be and what would you talk about?

The djinni from THE AMULET OF SAMARKAND, by Johnathan Stroud. That’s been one of my all-time favorite series since I was a kid. I’d ask him all about his history, the things he’s seen and the people he’s met. 

If you buried a time capsule with three items inside, what three items would you choose and why?

A PS2, some sour gummy worms, and a hoodie with thumb holes, to preserve the essence of the 2000s. 

What was your favorite bit of research you ended up not using?

I feel like I ended up using all my research! Even if it didn’t come up in the story, every detail I learned about the Old West helped me build the world of Arketta. But my favorite statistic I like to tell people is that almost 50% of cowboys were Black, Latinx, and/or Indigenous. The idea that they all looked like John Wayne comes from a very whitewashed, Hollywood version of history.  

What is your favorite quote, scene, or moment from Sisters of Reckoning?

There’s a scene where the gang robs a casino and kidnaps a landmaster, and that was a ton of fun to write. I’m excited for readers to experience it.
