It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? | July 27, 2020

Posted July 27, 2020 by Kaity in Bookish Memes, It's Monday! What Are You Reading? / 16 Comments

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? is a bookish meme hosted by Kathryn over at Book Date! It’s a place to meet up and share what you have been, and are about to be reading over the week. It’s a great post to organize yourself. It’s an opportunity to visit and comment and er… add to your groaning TBR pile!

I did this meme last week and loved it, so I’m back today, joining in on all of the fun! And now without any further ado, here’s my reading update for this week!

Zoe knows that the only thing harder than middle school is losing a best friend. She and Laura used to do everything together from taking silly selfies, to joining all the same clubs together and even throwing surprise birthday parties for one another.
But lately things have been weird between them. Now Laura will post a photo of her hanging out with other girls before responding to Zoe's simple text. She doesn't even want to sit with her at lunch anymore. Zoe is heartbroken--all she wants is for things to go back to normal.
But then a magical app downloads on her phone...and things get even weirder! Suddenly Zoe can travel back in time to moments where her and Laura started drifting apart. It is like a dream come true. A chance for Zoe to mend their friendship.
But as Zoe goes back to moments of middle school drama--sleepover games gone wrong, field trips with cliques and crushes, and school projects that bring on more-than-awkward encounters--she realizes that second chances don't always go as planned and that sometimes you need to trust the magic of new beginnings.

There was and there was not, as all stories begin, a princess cursed to be poisonous to the touch. But for Soraya, who has lived her life hidden away, apart from her family, safe only in her gardens, it's not just a story.
As the day of her twin brother's wedding approaches, Soraya must decide if she's willing to step outside of the shadows for the first time. Below in the dungeon is a demon who holds knowledge that she craves, the answer to her freedom. And above is a young man who isn’t afraid of her, whose eyes linger not with fear, but with an understanding of who she is beneath the poison.
Soraya thought she knew her place in the world, but when her choices lead to consequences she never imagined, she begins to question who she is and who she is becoming...human or demon. Princess or monster.

Of course I want to be like them. They’re beautiful as blades forged in some divine fire. They will live forever.
And Cardan is even more beautiful than the rest. I hate him more than all the others. I hate him so much that sometimes when I look at him, I can hardly breathe.

  1. Looks like you are into a great series by Holly Black. Any YA I read I enjoy but I hardly ever get to them though. Hope you have a great reading week.

  2. I’m quite looking forward to reading Girl, Serpent, Thorn as soon as I can! The cover is gorgeous as well. 🙂

  3. I missed your IMWAYR post last week, so here’s a belated welcome to IMWAYR! These books sound great! The Retake in particular sounds like an interesting spin on the problem-ridden-friendship story, what with the theme of choosing new friendships even when you have the chance to attempt to fix old ones. Thanks so much for the great post!
