Elouise (Lou) Parker is determined to have the absolute best, most impossibly epic summer of her life. There are just a few things standing in her way:

She's landed a job at Magic Castle Playland . . . as a giant dancing hot dog.

Her crush, the dreamy Diving Pirate Nick, already has a girlfriend, who is literally the Princess of the park. But Lou's never liked anyone, guy or otherwise, this much before, and now she wants a chance at her own happily ever after.

Her best friend, Seeley, the carousel operator, who's always been up for anything, suddenly isn't when it comes to Lou's quest to set her up with the perfect girl or Lou's scheme to get close to Nick.

And it turns out that this will be their last summer at Magic Castle Playland--ever--unless she can find a way to stop it from closing.

Jennifer Dugan's sparkling debut coming-of-age queer romance stars a princess, a pirate, a hot dog, and a carousel operator who find love--and themselves--in unexpected people and unforgettable places.

Review

My Favorite Part

You guys, this book was SO CUTE!!! The thing that gets me sometimes with contemporaries is that they just don’t feel real? But this was SO GROUNDED while also being THE CUTEST BOOK EVER omg!!! And the setting!!! I don’t think I’ve ever read a book that takes place at an amusement park before, but I absolutely LOVED that aspect of it so I’m definitely going to look for more! Oh! And when I was reading the acknowledgements (please validate me and tell me I’m not the only one who reads these) I loved all the Teen Wolf references! It made me miss the height of that fandom on tumblr, which few things do anymore, so go Hot Dog Girl! AND AND AND I listened to this on audiobook, and the narration was just *insert chef kiss here* PERFECT! So in honor of that, I’m hosting a giveaway! See the Giveaway section below for more details!

My Least Favorite Part

I am 150% in love with all the pairings at the end, but at the beginning of the story, I was shipping some different things… (See spoilers section for more info!) Also, if cheating is something that’s going to upset you at all, this probably isn’t the book for you. 🙁

Judging a Book by its Cover

CAN YOU SEE HOW ADORABLE THIS COVER IS???? I would say it’s perfect, but honestly I’m a little in love with how it looks on my instagram so it’s… almost perfect. 9.99/10 stars!!!

If You Liked…

Simon Vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda (and basically all of Becky Albertalli’s books, honestly), for all the happy queer romcom-ness of it all… To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, because of the romcom cheesiness and lovey dovey smile inducing ships… Faking It, because of the fake dating and queer romcoms and do you see a theme here…

Then you will LOVE Hot Dog Girl!

Spoilers Sweetie

I really thought View Spoiler »Like I thought all the View Spoiler » and then I was so wrong, but I was so happy I was wrong??? Because View Spoiler »omg heart eyes forever!!!!

Let’s Discuss

Today’s discussion is all about romcoms! My favorites are always the ones that give me a little time before the couple gets together so that I actually want them to be together by the time it happens. Also, as you may have noticed by my If You Like section, apparently I’m a fan of fake dating! So what are your favorite romcoms and romcom tropes? Do you like fake dating and slow burns (like me) or are you an insta love lover? Let me know in the comments and have a splendiferous week!
