Tell the truth. Or face the consequences.

Clue meets Riverdale in this page-turning thriller that exposes the lies five teens tell about a deadly night one year ago.

One year ago, there was a party. At the party, someone died. Five teens each played a part and up until now, no one has told the truth.

But tonight, the five survivors arrive at an isolated mansion in the hills, expecting to compete in a contest with a $50,000 grand prize. Of course…some things are too good to be true. They were each so desperate for the prize, they didn’t question the odd, rather exclusive invitation until it was too late.

Now, they realize they’ve been lured together by a person bent on revenge, a person who will stop at nothing to uncover what actually happened on that deadly night, one year ago.

Five arrived, but not all can leave. Will the truth set them free? Or will their lies destroy them all?

How This Lie Will Kill You was inspired by Clue
I was in middle school when I discovered the board game Clue. I loved everything about it—the colorful cast of characters, the complicated layout of the house, and the fact that anyone could be the killer. Was it Miss Scarlet in the living room with the candlestick? Professor Plum in the observatory with the wrench? And how did the guilty party get from one end of the house to the other so quickly? Oh, right . . .  the secret passageway!
In short, I was hooked.
Several years later, I learned that my high school was putting on the one-act play of Clue. Of course I auditioned! I stormed into the auditorium, gave my best possible performance, and waited for the cast list to be posted. And wouldn’t you know it? I got cast as . . .
Nothing. I didn’t earn the part of Miss Scarlet, my favorite character at the time. I didn’t even make it into the background! Naturally, I was crushed, but I went to see the production anyway. It was fantastic—and all the better for not having me in it.
Yes, many years later, I can admit the truth: I’m terrible at acting.
But that’s all right, because there are other ways to express oneself. Other art forms to explore. Through it all (the game playing, the auditioning, the disappointment) I was honing my craft as a writer. When my agent asked me what I was working on, three years ago, an idea hit me . . .
What if I wrote a YA thriller inspired by Clue? I could have a complicated cast of characters, and each of them would be guilty of something. The reader would get to be the detective, gathering the clues and uncovering the truth. And maybe, if I was very clever, I could keep people guessing until the final pages.
In the end, This Lie Will Kill You morphed into something much darker, and much more twisted than the game I loved as a teen. But the original elements are still there—a beautiful, isolated mansion. A cast of mysterious characters, each harboring a secret. And the idea that anyone could be the villain . . . unless, of course, it’s everyone.
Can you solve the mystery before it’s too late?
