A princess fleeing an arranged marriage teams up with a snarky commoner to foil a rebel plot in B. R. Myers' Rogue Princess, a gender-swapped sci-fi YA retelling of Cinderella.
Princess Delia knows her duty: She must choose a prince to marry in order to secure an alliance and save her failing planet. Yet she secretly dreams of true love, and feels there must be a better way. Determined to chart her own course, she steals a spaceship to avoid the marriage, only to discover a handsome stowaway.
All Aidan wanted was to “borrow” a few palace trinkets to help him get off the planet. Okay, so maybe escaping on a royal ship wasn’t the smartest plan, but he never expected to be kidnapped by a runaway princess!
Sparks fly as this headstrong princess and clever thief battle wits, but everything changes when they inadvertently uncover a rebel conspiracy that could destroy their planet forever.

Do you have a favorite scene, quote, or moment from Rogue Princess?

One of my favourite moments to write (and read) is the scene when Delia’s younger sister, Princess Shania, meets Aidan for the first time.

Princess Shania’s playful nature and fondness for romance is the opposite to her older sister’s straight forward approach to royal duties. And while finding a handsome stranger resting on her sister’s bed, shirtless and with a bandage around his ribs is the last thing she expected, Shania wastes no time in engaging Aidan into a charming exchange.

Shania picked up a small pink cake with a purple flower on the top and popped it into her mouth like it was only a biscuit crumb. “So,” she said, already reaching for another cake, a dark brown one this time. “I know you’re not one of the princes, so who are you? And why are you in my sister’s bedchamber?”

Aidan stared as she consumed another tiny cake. “Um . . . classi- fied,” he answered.

“Here,” she lifted a plate of white cakes toward him. There was a curious topping, like it was rolled in snow. “At least tell me about the black eye. Was it a fight? I bet it was over a girl. Am I right?”

“Pirates,” he said. Aidan took one of the white cakes and brought it to his nose. Oh! He hoped it tasted half as good as it smelled.

“Pirates!” Shania’s eyes grew as large as the plates. “I thought they were outlawed!”

“Ask your sister.” He smiled. “She actually threw a bomb at one.” Then he took the smallest bite possible, wanting to make this last.

An explosion of gleeful sounds escaped Shania. She put a hand to her chest and laughed as though it came all the way from her silk slippers. “Really?” she sighed, once the giggles had subsided. “She never told me! That sneak!”

“Truly!” He grinned back. The first bite of the sweet melted on his tongue. “I wanted to run and hide, but she was determined to stay and fight.”

An expression of admiration and awe lit her features. “That’s amazing.” Shania licked her fingertips, then took another cake. She winked at Aidan. “You’ve been having adventures together, then?”

“Mm-hmm,” he said while chewing. He was concentrating on eating the cake slowly to enjoy the moment, but he could no longer fight the urge and he inhaled the whole thing. He reached for another.

Biting her lip, Shania looked to the side. “Is this your eye patch? I like it.” Then she picked it up and slipped it over her own eye. She struck a pose. “How do I look?”

“Dangerous,” Aiden said, popping the white cake in his mouth. Then he closed his eyes and groaned. “What am I eating?” he said. “It’s amazing! Forget plasma, give everyone in the Dark District these cakes.”

She laughed. “Haven’t you ever had coconut before?”

He chewed languidly and then swallowed. “Co-co-nut?” he re- peated.

Shania leaned forward. “Where did you come from? And are there more like you?”
