Survivors of a deadly planetary outbreak take on a new, sinister adversary in the white-knuckle sequel to Contagion, which New York Times bestselling author Amie Kaufman called “gripping, thrilling and terrifying in equal measures.”

They thought their nightmare was over, but Thea, Coen, and Nova’s rescue was only the beginning. After being imprisoned on a ship they thought was their ticket to safety, it’s clear that the threat they left behind isn’t as distant as they’d hoped—and this time the entire galaxy is at risk.

Now that threat is about to be unleashed as an act of political warfare. To prevent an interstellar catastrophe, the survivors must harness the evil they faced on the planet Achlys and learn to wield the only weapon they have left: themselves.

The first installment in Erin Bowman’s duology earned a starred review from Publishers Weekly, who called the plot “intricate and action-packed,” and fans of Jonathan Maberry, Rick Yancey, and Madeline Roux will relish in Bowman’s tense, high-stakes conclusion to the events of Contagion.

If Thea, Coen, and Nova were to hang out with characters from other YA books, who would they be and why?

I think the Contagion/Immunity crew would get along well with the cast of the Illuminae Files. These teens have all gone through similar experiences—scary, horrific, intense stuff. They could bond over their traumas.

What would you do if you spent the day with Thea, Coen, and Nova? Where would you go to eat, hang out, relax, etc.?

Nova would want to go to an air base and zip around in a fighter jet… Nose-diving and spinning and doing all sorts of stuff that would make me uncontrollably sick. Maybe I could stay on the ground and cheer for her from there?

Thea would want to go to a museum, and Coen would probably tag along with her, especially if she chose an aquarium. He’d love a glimpse of an octopus. (It will make sense when you read Immunity, I promise). This is a fun outing that poses zero risk of motion sickness, so I would totally tag along with them.

Then later, we’d all meet up for dinner somewhere in Hearth City; maybe down by the wharf, at a restaurant that has a view of the ocean. The evening wouldn’t be complete without ice cream, because what evening is?

What’s your current favorite book?

I’ve been pushing Damsel by Elana K Arnold on anyone who likes dark, twisted fairytales. And I’m desperately awaiting the final book in Neal Shusterman’s Arc of the Scythe series.

What is your absolute favorite, read over-and-over again, book?

I have yet to tire of rereading the original Harry Potter series. (I’m not a fan of any of the new spin-off screenplays though.) I also adore The Book of Lost Things by John Connolly. I reread it every few years.

Which of your characters do you identify the most with and why?

Thea. She’s the most like Teen Erin; a good student, hard worker, rule-follower, and someone who goes out of her way to avoid confrontation (especially with authority figures!). Granted, a lot happens over the course of the series that makes Thea very different from me, but we have these core character traits in common.

I’ve been asking this a lot in my interviews, but now I want to ask you- if you could hang out with any YA character(s), whom would you choose and why? Let me know in the comments below and have a splendiferous day!
