On Monday morning, seventh graders Owen, Gemma, Ally, and Todd, who have nothing in common and barely know each other, must work together and follow the instructions of an anonymous blackmailer. None of them want to go along with the blackmailer's instructions, but each of them have a secret they must protect at all costs.
Set during a single day of school, the students race against the clock to complete a disquieting set of tasks, with fast-paced chapters detailing each moment of the day interspersed with a later interview-style recording made by the quartet.
I Know Your Secret is an exploration of why we conceal the truth, how far we'll go to keep it hidden, and the power of being honest.
About Daphne Benedis-Grab
I grew up in the small town of Red Hook, New York with my parents, my little sister Sam, and our cat Louie. I loved reading, listening to music and hanging out with friends, and I hated the huge spiders that lived in our basement.
I went to boarding school for high school. Boarding school was fun but there was also lots of drama. It’s fun to write about now but wasn’t always fun to live through. After high school I took a gap year and lived in Colombia, South America. When I got back I studied history at Bard College, then spent my twenties traveling and working. I helped build houses for Habitat for Humanity in Americus, Georgia, worked as a (not very good) server at a pizza place in Boston, Massachusetts, taught English in Changsha, China, tutored literacy skills in San Francisco, California and taught high school history in Los Angeles, California. Then I moved to New York City and studied writing at The New School.
I still live in New York City with my husband, two kids and our cat Tango. I still love to travel, to read and to hang out with friends. I still write books and I went to school again, this time to become a school librarian. Now I work at an elementary school in Brooklyn which I love as much as writing! I get to spend my days being a librarian, being a writer, being a mom and of course being a cat owner. And that’s my story!
