For Dracula lovers and fans of Diana Urban’s All Your Twisted Secrets, this spine-tingling thriller follows seven horror buffs as their dream trip to a remote Romanian castle turns into a nightmare when they begin to be killed one by one.
Alex Rush is ready for the trip of a lifetime.
She and her friends have made some creepily awesome films together throughout high school, so with only a few months left before they go their separate ways for college, they’re determined to make the best one yet: an epic short film that reimagines the story of Dracula, filmed on location at a remote castle in Romania.
But when they get there, it’s not quite the majestic setting they planned for. Menacing weapons line the walls, the twisted halls are easy to get lost in, and with no connection to the outside world, the group is unexpectedly off the grid. After just a few hours spent under its roof, Alex and her friends have no trouble imagining how this dark, terrifying castle inspired one of the most enduring horror novels of all time.
Only soon they no longer have to use their imaginations to understand the location’s terrifying history—just as they get the film’s first shot rolling, one of Alex’s friends disappears, and she’s nearly certain she saw a cloaked stranger lurking in the shadows. As more members of the group begin to meet an untimely demise, Alex is desperate to stop the bloodshed, even if it means facing a monster she never thought would be let loose.

What would you do if you spent the day with Alex and her friends? Where would you go to eat, hang out, relax, etc.?

Alex and her friends would definitely be hanging out at a local movie theater watching something special like classic horror matinee or dark anime. I can see her having strong opinions about popcorn and Red Vines. When the weather is nice, I can imagine Alex heading over to Kenna’s house and setting up one of those inflatable screens and a projector and playing a movie in the backyard.

If Alex and her friends were to hang out with other fictional characters, who would they be and why?

I can imagine Alex and her friends throwing a dinner party for the most interesting “monsters” in books and films. Dracula would be there, along with the kids from Twilight as well, and Dr. Frankenstein and his monster. They’d eat by candlelight and argue about who was the scariest!

If there was one fictional place you could travel to for a day, where would it be and why?

Personally, I’d travel to a beach or somewhere with an amazing pool. My ideal vacation is reading in a scenic location. Have book will travel!

If you buried a time capsule with three items inside, what three items would you choose and why?

How long will it stay down there? I’d like to bury a Twinkie just to see if you can really still eat it after a very long time. I’d probably stick my high school yearbook in there because at least that way I’d be rid of those terrible pictures of me. Finally, I’d include an anthology, perhaps of poetry, to preserve the feeling of our times.

What was your favorite bit of research you ended up not using?

Originally, the book was set on a private island. I’m a LOST superfan and I’ve always wanted to do something in that kind of setting. I meticulously researched seaplanes (planes that can land on water) – how many people they seat, how noisy there are, etc. I ended up not using any of that once I transitioned to a castle setting.

What is your favorite quote, scene, or moment from Go Hunt Me?

My favorite scene is the part where Reagan and Kenna argue about whether or not they passed each other in the hallway. For me, there’s something so scary about the idea that you can’t rely on your own memory or perceptions to determine what is real or what really happened.
