A month, year, or forever?\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cinder from <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Lunar Chronicles<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, because it would be awesome to live on the moon, have super powers, hang out with Iko, wear crazy dresses, and of course, kiss Kai. I think one moon day (which is much longer than an earth day) would be enough for me.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>What would you do if you spent the day with Sophie and Mariah? Where would you go to eat, hang out, relax, etc.?\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If I hung out with Sophie Carter in London, we would definitely hit up the Science Museum and then the London Eye (Ferris wheel). After that, I would introduce her to my favorite Indian restaurant for some curry and naan.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If I spent the day with Mariah Carter in London, we would start at the art gallery, Tate Britain, and obsess over the Pre-Raphaelite paintings there. Sir John Everett Millais\u2019s \u201cOphelia\u201d would be her favorite because the model posed for it in a bathtub full of water (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tate.org.uk\/art\/artworks\/millais-ophelia-n01506\/story-ophelia\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">https:\/\/www.tate.org.uk\/art\/artworks\/millais-ophelia-n01506\/story-ophelia<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">)<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Then we would head over to the National Gallery and look at paintings until we couldn\u2019t stand it anymore. Next, we\u2019d head to Hyde Park and get sandwiches and ice cream at one of the vendors.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>If Sophie and Mariah were to hang out with characters from other YA books, who would they be and why?\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mariah Carter would hang out with Charlotte Bronte from <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">My Plain Jane <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and they would talk at length about how Charlotte improved Jane Eyre\u2019s story by giving her a younger and less manipulative hero.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sophie Carter would probably want to hang out with Cress from <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Lunar Chronicles. <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They would geek out about technology for hours until Thorne finally left to hang out with Wolf.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>What was your favorite bit of research you ended up not using?\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s in the Author\u2019s Note, but not in the story itself. Elizabeth Eleanor Siddall makes a cameo with Dante Gabriel Rossetti and the reader learns that she\u2019s a model for Pre-Ralphaelite painters. What I didn\u2019t have space to focus on is that she was also a painter and poet in her own right. She even had a patron, John Ruskin. Another historical character that makes a cameo in the book.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Do you have a favorite quote, scene, or moment from <i>The Invention of Sophie Carter<\/i>?\u2028<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Favorite quote:<\/strong> \u201cI understand why you like to read\u2014<\/span><b>I prefer books to people,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> too. But I\u2019m not a heroine in one of your novels. Love is not the answer to all of my problems.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What can I say? I also prefer books to people.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Favorite scene:<\/strong> the hiccupping one (you\u2019ll know it when you read it).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Favorite moment:<\/strong> always a kissing scene #wink.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><b>Were there alternate endings you considered, or did you always know where the story was headed?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sophie\u2019s ending always stayed the same. But I wrote four different endings for Mariah and had my beta reader\u2019s vote.
