What about a week? A month, year, or forever?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is such a great question\u2014and not one I\u2019ve ever been asked! I think I would want to be Katsa in Graceling. I\u2019d want to be her \u2013 for <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">any<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> length of time \u2013 because she is so competent, so capable, smart, and independent. I just adore that character. She\u2019s really this ferocious thing\u2014she fights, loves, and protects with everything in her.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>What would you do if you spent the day with Frannie? Where would you go to eat, hang out, relax, etc.?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Oh, this one\u2019s easy. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Definitely<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> I\u2019d want to spend the day at the beach with her! We have a shared love of the ocean.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>If Frannie were to hang out with characters from other YA books, who would they be and why?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I think Frannie and Lyra from THE GOLDEN COMPASS would be thick as thieves, as they say, though Lyra\u2019s a little younger. They both have incredible wit, cleverness, and bravery. Together, I think they could take over the world!<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>What was your favorite bit of research you ended up not using?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There was so much, honestly. I got really into nautical terminology, period-appropriate slang, and music\u2014and I feel like only about 5-10% of that made it into the novel!<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>What is your favorite quote, scene, or moment from <i>Rebel Spy<\/i>?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I have a great fondness for the relationship that develops between Frannie and Tom Hackett. I don\u2019t want to get too detailed, in case people haven\u2019t read it. But it really touched me.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Can you share some things that we might not know about your characters?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Again\u2014there\u2019s so much here! I wrote sooo many scenes that didn\u2019t make it into the novel. But one thing comes to mind, and it\u2019s that Frannie likes to pretend she\u2019s other people. I had quite a lot written that was edited out where she\u2019s imitating ship\u2019s captains and copying people\u2019s gestures and such.
