I\u2019d be one of the cleverest witches in the world. I like my life though, so a day is fine. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>What would you do if you spent the day with Jo and Laurie? Where would you go to eat, hang out, relax, etc.?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I\u2019d like to go to New York with them, go to the opera and the theatre and a fabulous ball. Laurie can pay for everything and Jo and I would be BFF\u2019s.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>If Jo and Laurie were to hang out with characters from other YA books, who would they be and why?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jo and Laurie would enjoy Alex and Eliza\u2019s company very much. Lots of scintillating conversation! <\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>What was your favorite bit of research you ended up not using?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It would have been nice to set some of the book in Europe, as Louisa May Alcott travelled a lot, but there was no place in our story for that.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>What books would you recommend to Jo and Laurie?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jo is a great reader so she\u2019s probably read them all. But if she were alive today I\u2019d give her a copy of Sally Rooney\u2019s <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Normal People<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. She\u2019d love it!<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Do you have a favorite quote, scene, or moment from <i>Jo &amp; Laurie<\/i>?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chapter Seventeen: Heartache. That chapter meant the most to me because the original Heartache Chapter from Little Women literally BROKE MY HEART. So I wanted to rewrite it and show how it \u2018really\u2019 happened. And we did in the book, I would take advantage of that trade to get her to take another look at the boy next door\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u263a<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>What would you do if you spent the day with Jo and Laurie? Where would you go to eat, hang out, relax, etc.?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I\u2019d go with them to see Dickens. Then we could all meet up with Mel and crash her ball. Trust me, Mel has great taste in balls.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>If Jo and Laurie were to hang out with characters from other YA books, who would they be and why?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jo and Laurie would love Lena and Ethan. They could all commiserate with each other about the rocky road to true love!<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>What was your favorite bit of research you ended up not using?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We went down a rabbit hole about Concord, Massachusetts\u2014where both the Alcotts and the Marches lived. I can, in fact, describe in great detail the typical Concord 19<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> century Fourth of July celebrations, for example, if only someone wants to listen, lol.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>What books would you recommend to Jo and Laurie?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Emily Dickinson\u2019s poetry. They had the same publisher\u2014though Emily was published posthumously\u2014and I think she\u2019d really like Emily\u2019s funky\/bold modernist syntax.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Do you have a favorite quote, scene, or moment from <i>Jo &amp; Laurie<\/i>?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> I loved writing Chapter Four: Vegetable Valley. I love how the sisters tease and soothe each other\u2026 and plan out each other\u2019s lives\u2026in the garden. It felt so real and also so true to the book. I guess that\u2019s why the original stands the test of time.
