I\u2019m pretty partial to when Kamai goes\u00a0<span class=\"il\">beyond<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"il\">the<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"il\">black<\/span>\u00a0door for\u00a0<span class=\"il\">the<\/span>\u00a0first time and meets Vehyn, just because there\u2019s been a lot of buildup to that moment, and also I just love describing\u00a0<span class=\"il\">the<\/span>\u00a0\u2026 uh \u2026 scenery.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong> What is something that we might not know about your main characters?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">I think (I hope!) a lot of people know that Kamai is asexual, but she\u2019s also demi-biromantic, meaning she can become romantically attracted to any gender after she\u2019s formed a bond with them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>(<strong>Note from Kait:<\/strong> in case you&#8217;re wondering, this is what drew me to this amazing sounding book in the first place!)<\/em><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong> Give us the elevator pitch for <em>Beyond the Black Door<\/em>!<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>It\u2019s about a girl who can walk through people\u2019s souls as if they were houses, and the black door that follows her from soul to soul that she\u2019s never supposed to open\u2014but of course she does, unleashing something dark on the world.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>How do you feel about LGBTQIA+ rep in your work and how important is it to you to write diverse characters and storylines?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The LGBTQIA+ rep is my favorite part of my work. It\u2019s incredibly important to me to include it since there aren\u2019t a lot of books that reflect my own experience, and as a bonus, I hope I\u2019m able to reflect someone else\u2019s, as well!<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>What are some TV shows, movies, and books that would pair well with your book?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">I\u2019m not so good with TV shows, but I\u2019ll take a stab at\u00a0<span class=\"il\">the<\/span>\u00a0others!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">Movies:\u00a0<i>Labyrinth<\/i>,\u00a0<i>Phantom of\u00a0<span class=\"il\">the<\/span>\u00a0Opera<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">Books:\u00a0<i>Cruel Beauty<\/i>\u00a0by Rosamund Hodge<i>\u00a0<\/i>and\u00a0<i>Wicked Saints<\/i>\u00a0by Emily A. Duncan<i>\u00a0<\/i>for YA and\u00a0<i>Uprooted<\/i>\u00a0by Naomi Novik and\u00a0<i><span class=\"il\">The<\/span>\u00a0Hundred Thousand Kingdoms\u00a0<\/i>by N.K.
