Where would you go to eat, hang out, relax, etc.?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">First, I would have Chris drive over in his car with Maia to meet me in Charlotte, North Carolina (it\u2019s only about an hour outside of Carson, where they live out in the boonies). <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We\u2019d start out with coffee at Amelie\u2019s in NoDa (which stands for North of Davidson, like NYC\u2019s SoHo\u2014it\u2019s Charlotte\u2019s artsy district). We\u2019d wander around the funky shops for a while and we\u2019d each end up buying something we didn\u2019t really need: Chris would buy a compass, just because. And Maia would buy a hat and immediately regret it. They\u2019d probably talk me out of getting an impulse tattoo, though (they\u2019re much more level-headed than I am!). \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Then we\u2019d head uptown to the Historic Elmwood and Pinewood Cemeteries so that Maia could take some pictures\u2014she\u2019d definitely want to see the elaborate monuments and the gravesite of the south\u2019s first woman physician. After that we would probably be pretty hungry, so we\u2019d find some good vegetarian restaurants and we\u2019d let Maia choose which one we would go to: She\u2019d probably pick Luna\u2019s Living Kitchen. Then it would be a bike ride through Freedom Park to see the cherry blossom trees. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Next, we\u2019d need to get out of the heat, and we\u2019d probably think it was a really good idea to go see a foreign arthouse film, but we\u2019d be more interested in making up our own subtitles and getting buckets of popcorn and giant sweet teas (honestly, we\u2019d be a little peckish from our healthy vegan lunch). Afterward, I\u2019ll take Chris and Maia to our local LGBTQIA+ Center, Time Out Youth, so they could see how amazing it is there!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At sunset, Chris would insist on driving us just to the outskirts of town, where we\u2019d find an empty field to look at the mesmerizing night sky full of stars, away from the city lights. We\u2019d lay down a blanket and Chris would point out all the planets and constellations, and see way more shooting stars than me and Maia. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(<em>Note to Self:<\/em> Chris and Maia would probably want to have a little smoochy-romance time under the stars, so on second thought, I\u2019d see if we could make it a double date instead and I\u2019d bring my girlfriend along too!).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We would end the evening back in the artsy NoDa district for some late-night doughnuts from Reigning Doughnuts, and then we\u2019d see Chris and Maia off, and make sure they texted when they got home safe. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(<em>Note to Reader:<\/em> How bad is it that I actually <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">really <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to want to do this day with Chris and Maia?)<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>About the Author<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-3098 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kaitgoodwin.com\/books\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/AUTHOR-2-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Amber Smith is the New York Times bestselling author of the young adult novels <em>The Way I Used to Be, The Last to Let Go, <\/em>and<em> Something Like Gravity<\/em>.
