Where would you go to eat, hang out, relax, etc.?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Amber and Jack live in a small town where every spot is basically The Landmark Spot, so I\u2019d definitely hit up all the same places they do in the book\u2014Maggie\u2019s Diner, Drip (which is really Amber and Miguel\u2019s place, but I don\u2019t think he\u2019d mind), and, of course, Gutter Kittens. A road trip to the beach would definitely be nice, too!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">If Amber and Jack&nbsp;were&nbsp;to hang out with other fictional characters, who would they be and why?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I feel like Amber and Jack would be really good couple friends with both Morgan and Ruby from <em>Some Girls Do <\/em>by Jennifer Dugan and Liz and Mack from Leah Johnson\u2019s <em>You Should See Me in a Crown<\/em>, and Jack would <em>definitely<\/em> have a lot to commiserate about with Mara from Britta Lundin\u2019s <em>Like Other Girls<\/em>! Amber really appreciates the sisterhood of cheerleaders, so I think she\u2019d particularly love Hermione and Polly and from E.K. Johnston\u2019s <em>Exit, Pursued Like a Bear<\/em>, and of course, when they\u2019re looking to bond with another Sapphic cheerleader\/ball player couple, they\u2019d definitely chill with Scottie and Irene from Kelly Quindlen\u2019s <em>She Drives Me Crazy<\/em>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">If there was one fictional place you could travel to for a day, where would it be and why?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I am in awe of Marie Rutkoski\u2019s world building in the <em>Winner\u2019s Curse<\/em> trilogy, and I would love a day to just travel all over those lands to see them in person and how they match up to the vivid pictures she\u2019s drawn in my head.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">If you buried a time&nbsp;capsule with three items inside, what three items would you choose and&nbsp;why?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Definitely one of my books\u2014probably <em>That Way Madness Lies<\/em>, because I like the idea of it representing literature and authorship through the ages. Probably one of my older kid\u2019s stuffed pandas, because at this age he wouldn\u2019t miss one and I love the idea of having my family together in that way even when it\u2019s dug up. And to represent the now, probably an iPhone. But not my iPhone. I desperately need that.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What was your favorite bit of research you ended up not using?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I really wanted to do so much more with cheerleading than I got to. I don\u2019t think there was any specific item I wanted to include that didn\u2019t make it in, but I really love great depictions of the complexity and athleticism of cheerleading and I did so much reading on it and ultimately I just couldn\u2019t fit any more in.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is your favorite quote, scene, or moment from&nbsp;<em>Home Field Advantage<\/em>?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There\u2019s a really fun scene of queer solidarity in the form of a double date at a ridiculous bowling alley, and it was just a delight for me to write. I love the foursome in it, I love the night of freedom they get to have in a city that otherwise feels so restrictive to them, I love that all these athletes are bringing their skills and competition to something else, and it was just a really fun scene to set.
