Peter, a gifted pianist, is everything to Sophie: best friend, musical collaborator, secret crush. When she learns she’s a match, donating a kidney is an easy, obvious choice. She can’t help wondering if after the transplant, he’ll love her back the way she’s always wanted.

But Peter’s life post-transplant isn’t what either of them expected. Though he once had feelings for Sophie too, he’s now drawn to Chase, the guitarist in a band that happens to be looking for a keyboardist. And while neglected parts of Sophie’s world are calling to her—dance opportunities, new friends, a sister and niece she barely knows—she longs for a now-distant Peter more than ever, growing increasingly bitter he doesn’t seem to feel the same connection.

Peter fears he’ll forever be indebted to her. It’s heartbreaking, and real, and I absolutely LOVED IT! When I read the synopsis for this, I was instantly hooked. It’s funny, because unrequited male feelings toward another character squicks me out, but unrequited female feelings toward another character is an instant draw for me. I really enjoyed the friendship between Peter and Sophie, and the way it progressed. I LOVED that Peter was bi! The fact that he also played piano just made me *swoon*, so thanks for that. I was also really interested in all of the Jewish parts to this book. Approximately 99% of what I know about religion comes from reading, so I always love when I get to read about a new or different perspective!

What I Didn’t: NOTHING. I went into this with low expectations, since contemporaries are so hit or miss for me, but basically I loved everything???
