Where would you go to eat, hang out, relax, etc.?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The first thing I\u2019d do would be making sure I had multiple decoy wallets with old\/expired cards, just to keep Vanja out of my actual wallet, which would be hidden somewhere. Then I\u2019d probably go see a dark comedy movie with Vanja, and we would probably all be badgered into going on a hike with Gisele. There would be a lot of snacking involved, and none of it healthy.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>If Vanja and Gisele\u00a0were\u00a0to hang out with characters from other books, who would they be and why?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I think Gisele would probably hang out with Elisabeth from <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sorcery of Thorns<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014they\u2019re both at the Venn Diagram Intersection of Jock and Book Nerd! I think Vanja would only keep the company of someone like Mogget, from <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sabriel,<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> who would encourage her worst impulses exclusively.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>If there was one fictional place you could travel to for a day, where would it be and why?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Probably Howl\u2019s castle! It\u2019s messy enough to feel like I\u2019m right at home, and I\u2019m sure I\u2019d have some fun souvenirs when I leave!<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>If you buried a time\u00a0capsule with three items inside, what three items would you choose and\u00a0why?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A Nintendo Switch with Breath of the Wild on it, a Detective Pusheen, and a copy of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Little Thieves<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> because the hustle transcends time.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>What was your favorite bit of research you ended up not using?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are a bunch of fun heists and scams that just didn\u2019t make sense for the book, but my favorite was a very simple one by Frank Abagnale Jr. He just dressed up as a security guard, posted himself by a drop box where he knew people deposited checks, and put a sign on the box that read \u201cOut of Order, leave deposits with security guard.\u201d And they did it! Just handed him money! No one asked themselves, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">how can a drop box be out of order?<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<h2><b>What is your favorite quote, scene, or moment from\u00a0<\/b><b><i>Little Thieves<\/i><\/b><b>?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s cheating to say all of them, huh? I think emotionally, there\u2019s a scene towards the middle, where Vanja has to really face her truth, as it were, and I am pretty fond of that. Roughly twenty seconds later, she decided she too would be an author, the first of many well-thought-out life decisions.<\/p>\n<p>The career plan shifted frequently as Margaret spent her childhood haunting the halls of Powell\u2019s Books. After earning her degree in Japanese, her love of espresso called her north to Seattle, where she worked in everything from thrift stores to presidential campaigns. The common thread between every job can be summed up as: lessons were learned.<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately, it turned out that fourth-grade Margaret was onto something. She now spends her days wrestling disgruntled characters onto the page, and negotiating a long-term hostage situation with her two monstrous cats. (There is surprisingly little difference between the two.)
