Going rogue in an effort to rescue her kidnapped parents has cost Reagan Hillis her automatic ticket to the Training Academy. But becoming a Black Angel is the only way Reagan will be able to exact revenge on her mother’s merciless killer, Santino Torres.

When Reagan is given a chance to prove that she’s worthy of training to be a Black Angel, she also gets the first chance she’s ever had to be her true self. No aliases. No disguises.

But when her friend Luke joins her at the Black Angels training compound, Reagan finds herself once again torn between the person she was and the person she wants to be. Reagan has to prove that she's as good as her parents trained her to be, because she’ll never find Torres without the Black Angels’ help.

Review

The Good, The Bad, and The GIF

The Good: The best part of this book is definitely the new characters! I LOVED Anusha and Cam so much! It was really cool to be able to see CORE Headquarters and everything they do there. I think my favorite part was that we were able to see Reagan be herself for the first time, but… she’s not really herself? Because she’s dealing with that grief from the end of book one, so it’s not like she’s the Reagan she wanted to be and it’s really amazing to see her figuring out who she could be and Kristen just did such an amazing job with this and I’m so happy I was able to read this book.

The Bad: I should really learn to read books quicker because every time I picked it up I LOVED it, but then I would set it down for a few days before picking it back up? So I should stop doing that. Also this book was perfect.

The GIF:

Judging a Book by its Cover

This cover is even better than the first one! I love how it has the same theme and aesthetic as You Don’t Know My Name, but it’s also very clearly different? It’s just perfect for the book. 9/10 stars!

Spoilers Sweetie

THE ENDING OH MY GOD. I 100% did not expect View Spoiler » So was anyone else COMPLETELY taken by surprise at that???

If you were a Black Angel Trainee, what would you enjoy most/be best at? I think I’d like to be sitting behind a desk doing strategy and stuff, but who knows? Let me know what you think in the comments!
