Happy Friday! Today I am participating in First Line Friday, hosted by Reading is My Superpower, AND First Lines Friday, created by Wandering Words!
First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for book lovers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines?
- Pick a book off your shelf (it could be your current read or on your TBR) and open to the first page
- Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first
- Finally… reveal the book!
“It began, predictably, with a dream.”
Anyone have any guesses on what book this is? I’ll give you a few clues…
honestly, this is the best gif ever for this book!
any guesses yet? no? okay, one more gif…
that one probably wasn’t very helpful, sorry
Last chance to guess!
Today’s book is…

There's nothing worse than peaking in high school. Nobody knows that better than Josie Pie.
She was kind of a big deal―she dropped out of high school to be a star! But the bigger you are, the harder you fall. And Josie fell. Hard. Ouch. Broadway dream: dead.
Meanwhile, her life keeps imploding. Best friend: distant. Boyfriend: busy. Mom: not playing with a full deck? Desperate to escape, Josie gets into reading.
Literally. She reads a book and suddenly she's inside it. And with each book, she’s a different character: a post-apocalyptic heroine, the lead in a YA rom-com, a 17th century wench in a corset.
It’s alarming. But also . . . kind of amazing?
It’s the perfect way to live out her fantasies. Book after book, Josie the failed star finds a new way to shine. But the longer she stays in a story, the harder it becomes to escape.
Will Josie find a story so good that she just stays forever?
“It began, predictably, with a dream.”
I’m reading/listening to Kind of a Big Deal by Shannon Hale right now and LOVING IT! I recently signed up for a free trial of scribd, and I think I might be in love. It has (almost) everything I like to listen to on hoopla and libby combined, and there’s no borrowing limits! It’s like netflix for books! And unlike library audiobooks, there’s also no due dates! I’ve been spending tons of time scrolling through all the books and saving the ones I want to listen to later. I think I’ve already hit 500. Oops.
Do you have scribd? How do you listen to your audiobooks? And what have you been reading lately? Let me know in the comments and have a splendiferous day!
Do you participate in either of these memes? Let me know if you do and link your posts in the comments so I can visit! And don’t forget to have a splendiferous week!
My first line is from another fantastic book Undercurrent of Secrets by Rachel Scott McDaniel:
