Alessandra is tired of being overlooked, but she has a plan to gain power:
1) Woo the Shadow King.2) Marry him.3) Kill him and take his kingdom for herself.
No one knows the extent of the freshly crowned Shadow King’s power. Some say he can command the shadows that swirl around him to do his bidding. Others say they speak to him, whispering the thoughts of his enemies. Regardless, Alessandra knows what she deserves, and she’s going to do everything within her power to get it.
But Alessandra’s not the only one trying to kill the king. As attempts on his life are made, she finds herself trying to keep him alive long enough for him to make her his queen—all while struggling not to lose her heart. After all, who better for a Shadow King than a cunning, villainous queen?
Do you have a favorite scene, quote, or moment from The Shadows Between Us?
Basically anytime Alessandra and The Shadow King are in the same room is my favorite. There’s an especially fun scene though when the king is waiting in her rooms after she returns to the castle after an outing with another man…
If Alessandra were to hang out with characters from other YA books, who would they be and why?
I could see Alessandra and Manon getting along. Or not. But they’d definitely respect each other. She’d also give the darkling a run for his money.
What are some TV shows, movies, and books that would pair well with The Shadows Between Us?
TV shows: The Vampire Diaries, The 100, Sweet Vicious
Movies: Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, Stardust, The Count of Monte Cristo
Books: Wicked Saints, The Cruel Prince, Three Dark Crowns
What was your favorite piece of research you ended up not using?
You know, I didn’t actually do a ton of research for this book. It’s not based on a specific people or time period, but I had a lot of fun looking up Greek names for the characters.
Do you write to music? If so, what were you listening to while you wrote The Shadows Between Us?
I don’t write to music, but I bring up a lot that I love the songs “Heads Will Roll” and “Youngblood” paired with TSBU.
What is something that we might not know about Alessandra?
She wants to learn to play the piano.
