Frozen meets Mad Max in this epic teen fantasy duology bursting with star-crossed romance, immortal heroines, and elemental magic, perfect for fans of Furyborn.

Generations of twin goddesses have long ruled Aeon. But seventeen years ago, one sister’s betrayal defied an ancient prophecy and split their world in two. The planet ceased to spin, and a Great Abyss now divides two realms: one cloaked in perpetual night, the other scorched by an unrelenting sun.

While one sister rules Aranth—a frozen city surrounded by a storm-wracked sea —her twin inhabits the sand-locked Golden City. Each goddess has raised a daughter, and each keeps her own secrets about her sister’s betrayal.

But when shadowy forces begin to call their daughters, Odessa and Haidee, back to the site of the Breaking, the two young goddesses —along with a powerful healer from Aranth, and a mouthy desert scavenger —set out on separate journeys across treacherous wastelands, desperate to heal their broken world. No matter the sacrifice it demands.

What inspired you to write this book?

I live in the Philippines, so I see a lot of visible effects of climate change happening before my eyes. I’ve always wanted to write the story where the big bad is not a person per se, but a whole world that’s trying to kill you in any way it can, because you’re the parasite that’s destroying it. (In a lot of ways, I think this is exactly our own situation with our current world. It’s just that, like a lot of the characters in THE NEVER TILTING WORLD, we refuse to admit that we could be the problem.)

Do you have a favorite scene, quote, or moment from The Never Tilting World?

One of my favorite quotes is actually the epigraph at the start of the book: “A demoness is what men call a goddess they cannot control.” It sets the tone not only for THE NEVER TILTING WORLD, but also for the next book in the duology! There’s also a major scene in the book that I had a lot of fun reading, but can’t really say much about because it’s a major spoiler. All I can say is it involves a lot of scorpions and Arjun screaming. Another scene I liked writing about also involves Arjun screaming again, but this time with fifty foot deathworms. You can probably see the pattern at this point.

If Arjun, Lan, Haidee, and Odessa were to hang out with characters from other YA books, who would they be and why?

If they were my other books? Arjun would 100% be best friends with Tark Holloway from The Girl from the Well. They have the same kind of personality that just incites trouble (and I should know, because I too share the same kind of personality).

I think Lan would get along very well with Inej from Six of Crows for some reason. They share some trauma and the need to be strong despite them, and they can probably relate to each other on a more personal level in this manner, and understand each other in ways others might not.

Haidee and Odessa would fight alongside Jude Duarte from the Cruel Prince series! They’d respect Jude’s desire to excel in a world that rejects and wants to beat her down, because that’s the same situation they’re in and can relate. Plus the twins are very concerned about justice and fairness, and they would absolutely rally behind Jude and tell off that bitch, Cardan, a hundred different ways.

What would you do if you spent the day with Arjun, Lan, Haidee, and Odessa? Where would you go to eat, hang out, relax, etc.?

I would be browsing bookstores with Odessa, test out the weirdly wonderful gadgets and inventions that Haidee would be cooking up (I am useless when it comes to gadgets, and they tend to break down frequently in my presence, so I would be a perfect test dummy), probably hit the gym with Lan, and talk crap about people in a pub with Arjun because we are both that basic.

Despite an unsettling resemblance to Japanese revenants, Rin always maintains her sense of hummus. Born and raised in Manila, Philippines, she keeps four pets: a dog, two birds, and a husband. Dances like the neighbors are watching. She is represented by Rebecca Podos of the Helen Rees Agency. She is also fond of speaking in the third person, and may as well finish this short bio in this manner. While she does not always get to check her Goodreads page, she does answer questions posed to her here as promptly as she is able to.

How do you feel about duologies? Are they just the right length (finally!) or are they a trend where authors try to fit three books into two? Let me know what you think in the comments and have a splendiferous day!
