Seventeen-year-old Esme Pearl has a babysitters club. She knows it's kinda lame, but what else is she supposed to do? Get a job? Gross. Besides, Esme likes babysitting, and she's good at it.

And lately Esme needs all the cash she can get, because it seems like destruction follows her wherever she goes. Let's just say she owes some people a new tree.

Enter Cassandra Heaven. She's Instagram-model hot, dresses like she found her clothes in a dumpster, and has a rebellious streak as gnarly as the cafeteria food. So why is Cassandra willing to do anything, even take on a potty-training two-year-old, to join Esme's babysitters club?

The answer lies in a mysterious note Cassandra's mother left her: "Find the babysitters. Love, Mom."

Turns out, Esme and Cassandra have more in common than they think, and they're about to discover what being a babysitter really means: a heroic lineage of superpowers, magic rituals, and saving the innocent from seriously terrifying evil. And all before the parents get home.

A TL;DR OF MY REVIEW:

  • WOW witchy books are the best 🔮
  • DEFINITELY has strong Buffy vibes!!! 🔪
  • A fun fall fantasy for sure! 🍂
  • HELLO YES i am in love with this cover!!! 😍

WOW. This storyline is absolutely AMAZING!!! Buffy plus babysitting equals perfection. Esme felt very relatable, especially with Janis. I’m really looking forward to seeing more of her relationship with her mom in book two. I’m also happy to report that this is a great addition to the witchy books published in 2019. The plot was what drove me to finish this book so fast and I would recommend this book to everyone looking for a fun fall fantasy.

The characters and writing in the first 25-30% felt very … cringey?  I guess? Like it felt like something from a Twilight fanfic in 2009. I don’t know, maybe it was just me, but I didn’t love it. It definitely got better as the book went on (or maybe I was just super excited about the plot, who knows), so that’s a good thing! Hopefully you’ll love it!

OH MY GOD have you seen this cover? Was it made specifically to get my attention? I think it was. I LOVE the colors and the design and the font and just absolutely everything. Perfection.

10/10 stars!!!

  • Buffy the Vampire Slayer
  • The Babysitters Club by Ann M. Martin
  • Meet Me in Outer Space by Melinda Grace
  • Horror/Halloween Movies

I totally called View Spoiler » I did NOT call that he was View Spoiler » Did you guess either part of that? Let me know!
